By this point in the year, you’re being inundated with Christmas songs playing in the grocery stores, malls, and wherever else you frequent. So yes, I’m going to throw some more of these tunes at you, but thanks to ex-Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen, these have a bit of a twist.
I’m a sucker for clean female vocals in metal. Whether it’s the bombastic delivery of Nightwish, the smoky-sweet crooning of Purson, or any of the multiple styles of my golden-voiced goddess, Liv Kristine, I’m almost always on board. Enter the Finnish band Psalms for the Dead Sun and their first LP, Holy Charade, featuring Jenny Malmberg on vocals.
Initially a one-time cover band known as Moonburn, a quintet of Finns found they enjoyed playing together and began working on original material. They changed their name to Red Room Ensemble and self-financed and released their first album, the self-titled Red Room Ensemble.
