Despite what you may be thinking about the hentai-esque cover, Norway’s From Below aren’t a generic pornogrind band. Rather, they are a unique mix of melodic death and groove metal, with shades of hardcore thrown in for good measure, and Undying shows the band is in strong form.
When I last listened to Cendra, it was their second album, 666 Bastards, of which I was a fan. The Spaniards are back for some more blackened thrash/punk on their newest album, the appropriately-titled Metal Punk.
Eschewing any sort of subgenre classification, Vancouver’s Witch Of The Waste mix hardcore/grindcore delivery and structure with progressive/djent riffing to create one of the most unique-sounding albums I’ve heard in a long time.
When you mention hardcore/d-beat and/or black metal, one of the last words that typically comes to mind is the word “fun”, but I’m not sure how else to describe the newest full-length from Cendra, entitled 666 Bastards. Despite the raw agression on display here, this music just brings a smile to my face.
